Ranking the Recycling Rates of all 33 London Boroughs
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has set a recycling target for 65% for both domestic and commercial waste by 2030 and 50% by 2025. We're now just 5 years away from this deadline so we thought we'd rank all 33 London boroughs as it currently stands.
Currently only 3 boroughs are above the 50% recycling rate target. 7 of the worst performers including Newham, Westminster, Wandsworth. Tower Hamlets, Barking and Dagenham, Hammersmith and Fulham and Redbridge have to double their current recycling rate at the very least. If you live in these boroughs, you can write to your local MP and request recycling bins. Show them this table and say something needs to change. If your voices still aren't heard, you will be able to set up an official petition to circulate around your local area. In most instances, 1,000 signatures is usually enough for local councils to take your petition seriously enough. It seems an absolute no brainer to provide all households across London with a recycling bin. The problem seems to be either a lack of urgency in this area or just sheet ignorance from local councils. Either way, we hope you can drive a positive change.
